Help text for your customers: connecting an assistant to your store Free & Pro

Copy-ready wording for your own help page or FAQ, explaining to customers how to connect an AI assistant to their account, what it can do, and how to disconnect it.

Updated October 12, 2026

Once agents start arriving, customers will ask your support team what connecting an assistant means and whether it is safe. The wording below is written for a store’s own help page or FAQ. It is accurate for any store running Agent Adapt; change the bracketed parts, drop anything that does not apply (the Pro paragraph, for instance), and keep the rest. It is plain text, so it reads well to a person and to an assistant that fetches your help page.

Using an AI assistant with your [Store name] account

If you use an AI assistant that supports the Personal Agent Protocol, it can shop at [Store name] for you. It can search our products, check prices and stock, read our returns policy and build a basket. When it’s ready, it gives you a link to our checkout, where you pay as usual. Your assistant never pays for you, and it never sees your card details.

Letting your assistant use your account

If you want your assistant to see your orders or reorder for you, it will send you to our website to connect it. You’ll sign in to your [Store name] account as normal, then see a page called Connect your assistant. It shows:

  • the name of the assistant asking, and the web address it comes from;
  • what it’s asking to do, each with a tick box;
  • how long the connection lasts: 90 days, unless you disconnect it sooner.

Tick only what you’re happy with and press Allow. Or press Decline. Your assistant never sees your password: you type it into our site, not into the assistant.

Some assistants, such as one in a speaker or a car, can’t open a link for you. Instead they show a short code and ask you to visit [store-address]/agent-adapt/device, sign in, and enter the code.

What a connected assistant can do

Depending on what you allowed:

  • View your orders, their status and your saved addresses: see your order history and details, put a past order back in a basket, and read your saved addresses.
  • Make changes for you: cancel an order you haven’t paid for yet.

[Pro stores only:] With your approval each time, it can also ask us to cancel a paid order and refund you, send us a return request, or change your saved address. Before any of those happens, your assistant shows you the exact terms and you approve them.

What it can never do

  • Pay for anything. You always pay on our checkout.
  • See or change your password or your payment methods.
  • See anyone else’s orders.

Seeing and disconnecting assistants

Go to My Account → Connected agents. You’ll see each assistant you’ve connected, what it may do, when it last used your account and when its access ends. Press Disconnect to end its access straight away.

We’ll email you each time a new assistant is connected. If you get that email and didn’t connect anything, disconnect it from My Account and change your password.

Changing your password or email address disconnects every assistant automatically.

Which assistants work?

Any assistant that supports the Personal Agent Protocol, an open standard. [Pro stores only: Assistants that let you add a custom MCP connector can also use our store; add [store-address]/agent-adapt/mcp and sign in when asked.] If yours doesn’t work yet, ask the people who make it.

Notes for you

  • The permission wording in bold is what the consent page shows, so customers see the same words in both places. If a developer has changed those words with the agentadapt_scope_descriptions filter, change them here too.
  • The 90-day figure is the plugin’s default. If you have changed it with a filter, change it here.
  • Keep this page published and plain. If an assistant fetches your help page to answer a customer’s question, headings and short paragraphs are what it needs.
  • Put a sentence about connected assistants in your privacy policy as well. See Writing store policies an agent can read.

Common questions

Can I change the words on the consent page itself?

The headings and the permission descriptions are fixed by the plugin so that every store shows customers the same thing. A developer can change the permission descriptions with a filter; the agent’s name and address always come from the agent.

Do customers need an account to use an assistant with my store?

No. Searching, reading policies and building a basket need no account. An account is needed only when the customer wants the assistant to see their orders or act on their account, and then they sign in on your site.

Should I mention specific assistants by name?

Only ones you have seen work with your store. The protocol is new and assistants will adopt it over time; a list of names goes stale quickly, and a wrong one sends customers down a dead end.

Is there a customer-facing page I can link to instead of writing my own?

Not yet. This guide exists so you can keep the words on your own domain, which is where customers and their assistants look first.
