Getting started with Agent Adapt Free

What Agent Adapt does for a WooCommerce store, what it needs to run, how to install it and how to check it is working.

Updated October 12, 2026

Agent Adapt lets a customer’s personal AI agent work with your WooCommerce store on their behalf. It implements the Personal Agent Protocol (Draft 0.1), an open standard in which the agent identifies itself to your store, the customer decides what access the agent gets, and your store decides what agents may do.

Requirements

  • WordPress 6.8 or newer
  • WooCommerce 10.0 or newer
  • PHP 8.1 or newer
  • HTTPS on your store’s own domain, with WordPress answering at the root of the domain

If a requirement is missing, Agent Adapt stays inactive and names the missing requirement in your dashboard, rather than loading partway.

Install

  1. Download the free plugin from the download page.
  2. In your dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the zip, then Install Now and Activate.

There are no settings to fill in and no API keys to issue. The plugin starts answering agents as soon as it is active.

What it does

Without signing in, an agent can search your catalogue, read product details and your published returns, terms and privacy pages, and build a cart with your own prices, stock rules and coupons. It hands the cart back as a link to your own checkout page, where the customer pays. Agents never take payment. See What agents can do at your store.

When a customer wants their agent to use their account, they sign in on your store’s own sign-in page and approve the agent there. A signed-in agent can list and read the customer’s orders, cancel an unpaid order, reorder, and read saved addresses. Access lasts 90 days. Customers can disconnect an agent at any time from My Account → Connected agents. Administrator and shop manager accounts can never be connected.

Check it is working

  1. Open Tools → Site Health. Agent Adapt adds six checks, and each failing one says how to fix it. See Site Health checks.
  2. Visit https://your-store/.well-known/poppy.json. You should see a JSON document naming your store.
  3. Open WooCommerce → Agents to see which agents have used your store, and block any you don’t want. See See and block agents.
