Food, drink and grocery: reorders, perishables, age-restricted products and delivery windows Free & Pro
Repeat orders are what personal agents do best, which suits food and drink stores. What works, how age checks and delivery slots still happen on your checkout.
Updated October 13, 2026
The worked example in this documentation is a coffee roaster, because "order me another bag of the coffee I had in March" is the clearest case for a personal agent: a repeat purchase the customer can describe without looking anything up. Food and drink stores on WooCommerce get that for free with Agent Adapt. This page covers what else they get, and the three things that still happen on your checkout and nowhere else: age checks, delivery slots and payment. Facts are from the plugin as it ships on 13 October 2026.
What customers will ask their assistant
- "Reorder my last coffee order."
- "Find a dry white under £15 that’s in stock."
- "When is my hamper arriving?"
- "What’s their policy if something arrives damaged?"
Reorders
With the customer signed in and the agent approved, one call puts a past order’s items back in the cart, with the same variations and quantities, and the agent hands the customer a checkout link. Prices are today’s, from your store, not the old order’s. If a product has since been hidden or discontinued, it is left out, and the agent sees the resulting cart.
Searching a food catalogue
Keywords are matched against titles and SKUs, with filters by category, price range, in stock and on sale. The agent reads the title, short description, price, stock, first image URL and categories, and for a product it looks at closely, the full description, attributes and variations. For food that means the words have to carry origin, weight, roast, grind, vintage, ABV, allergens and dietary flags. "Colombia Huila, 250 g, medium roast, whole bean" in the title and short description beats a photo of a bag. Allergen and ingredient lists belong in the description text, where the agent reads them; a customer asking "is it gluten-free?" gets an answer only if the words are there.
Age-restricted products
The agent API has no age verification and asks nothing about the customer’s age. It does not need to: the customer pays on your checkout, so whatever age check your checkout performs (a declaration, a date of birth field, a third-party verification) runs exactly as it does for any visitor. An agent can put wine in a cart; a person completes the purchase and passes your check. Say your age policy on your terms page, which agents read, so the assistant can warn the customer in advance.
Delivery slots and perishables
Delivery date and slot pickers are checkout features, and the checkout is where the customer picks them, in their own browser, after opening the agent’s link. The agent cannot choose a slot. Whether your store ships perishables to a given postcode, what days you dispatch, and how you pack cold items are facts the customer’s assistant will ask about; put them on your terms page or in product descriptions, because the shipping page itself is not sent to agents. See Writing store policies an agent can read.
Damaged, late, wrong
Your returns and refunds page is quoted as plain text. For food, say what you do about damaged or spoiled deliveries, within what time, and with what evidence. With Pro, an agent can send you a return request on a completed order within your return window, which for perishables you may set to a few days; the request adds a note and emails you, and refunds nothing until you act. Paid-order cancellation with refund (Pro) can be switched off if you dispatch on payment.
Subscriptions
Coffee and meal-kit stores often run WooCommerce Subscriptions. Agent Adapt has no integration with it: subscription products and renewal orders appear to agents as ordinary products and orders, and pausing, skipping or changing a subscription is not available through agents. See Subscriptions and memberships.
What to set up
- Weights, sizes, origins and dietary facts in titles and short descriptions.
- Ingredients and allergens in the description text.
- SKUs on every variation.
- Stock managed for anything that sells out.
- A terms page with dispatch days, perishables policy and age policy; a returns page with your damaged-goods process.
- With Pro: a return window that suits perishables, and paid-order cancellation off if you dispatch on payment.
Common questions
Can the agent order for delivery on Friday?
It can put the items in the cart. The customer picks the delivery date on your checkout, where your date picker runs.
Will it sell alcohol to a minor?
It cannot sell anything; the customer pays on your checkout, where your age check runs as it does for every order.
Can it reorder my subscription box?
It can reorder the items from a past order as a one-off purchase. It cannot manage the subscription.
Does it read allergens?
It reads whatever is in the product’s description text. If allergens are only in an image or a separate tab provided by a plugin, it does not see them.
