Pet supplies: the repeat-order store, and what a personal agent does with it Free & Pro

Food, litter and medication are bought on a cycle, which personal agents handle best. Reorders, naming sizes and life stages, prescription items, and where subscriptions stand.

Updated October 13, 2026

A pet owner buys the same food, the same litter and the same flea treatment, on a cycle, from a store they already use. That is the exact shape of request a personal agent handles well: find the store, sign in, reorder, hand over the checkout. This page is for pet stores on WooCommerce running Agent Adapt, with facts from the plugin as it ships on 13 October 2026.

What customers will ask their assistant

  • "Order the same dog food as last time, the big bag."
  • "Is the kitten version of that in stock?"
  • "When did my last order ship?"
  • "What’s their policy on returning opened food?"

Reorders

With the customer signed in and the agent approved, one call puts a past order’s items back in the cart, with the same variations and quantities, at today’s prices. The agent hands over a checkout link and the customer pays on your checkout. The whole exchange, once the agent has been approved, is a sentence from the customer.

Sizes, life stages and flavours

These are variations, and the agent matches and reports them by their attribute values. "Size: 12 kg", "Life stage: Senior", "Flavour: Salmon" give it words to work with; "Option A" does not. Stock is read per variation, so a flavour that is out is reported as out and not added. Price ranges are reported until a variation is chosen.

Descriptions should carry what the label carries: ingredients, feeding guide, breed size suitability. The agent reads the description text (up to 5,000 characters) but not images of the label.

Prescription and restricted products

The agent API has no prescription check. A product that needs a prescription or a vet’s authorisation should either be hidden from the catalogue (hidden products are never served to agents) or sold through a checkout step that collects what you need, because the customer completes the purchase on your checkout as any visitor would. Say on your terms page how prescriptions work, so the customer’s assistant can warn them before they try.

Subscriptions

Pet stores often run WooCommerce Subscriptions for food. Agent Adapt has no integration with it: subscription products and renewal orders appear to agents as ordinary products and orders, and agents cannot pause, skip or change a subscription. A customer can reorder the same items as a one-off. See Subscriptions and memberships.

Returns

Your returns page is sent to agents as plain text. Say what you do with opened food, damaged bags and wrong items. With Pro, an agent can send you a return request on a completed order within your return window; it adds a note and emails you and refunds nothing until you act.

What to set up

  1. Variation names for size, life stage and flavour, consistent across brands.
  2. SKUs on every variation; many customers reorder by the code on the bag.
  3. Stock managed per variation.
  4. Ingredients and feeding guides in description text.
  5. Hidden visibility for prescription-only lines, or a checkout that collects the prescription.
  6. A returns page with the opened-food rule.

Common questions

Can the agent set up a repeat order every four weeks?

Not at the store. Whether the customer’s assistant reminds them and reorders on a schedule is the assistant’s feature, and each reorder is a normal order the customer pays for on your checkout.

Will it buy prescription medication?

It can add any purchasable product to a cart. The purchase completes on your checkout, where your prescription step runs. Hide prescription lines if you do not want them in agent carts at all.

Does it know my pet’s details?

The store does not store pet profiles for agents. What the assistant knows about the customer’s pet is between the customer and their assistant.

Will it apply my subscribe-and-save discount?

Subscription pricing is not available through agents. Coupon codes the customer has can be applied.
