Health, supplements and wellness: regulated claims, restricted products and what to keep away from agents Free & Pro

Supplement stores get the reorder benefit of agents and inherit the compliance questions. What agents quote, how to keep restricted lines out of reach, the checkout gate.

Updated October 13, 2026

A supplement store is a repeat-order store with a regulator. Personal agents handle the repeat orders well, and they also quote your product descriptions to customers word for word, which makes the wording of health claims matter more, not less. This page is for health, supplement and wellness stores on WooCommerce running Agent Adapt, with facts from the plugin as it ships on 13 October 2026. It is not legal advice; your regulator’s rules on claims and on restricted products apply to what you write, as they do now.

What customers will ask their assistant

  • "Reorder my vitamin D, the 3-month pack."
  • "Find a magnesium supplement without gelatin."
  • "Is this suitable while pregnant?"
  • "When does my order arrive?"

What the agent quotes

The agent reads your title, short description, full description, attributes and variations, and passes them to the customer in its own words or yours. It does not check claims. A description that says a product "treats" a condition will be repeated to a customer by an assistant, which is a claim you have made through a new channel. Write descriptions that would pass review if read aloud by someone else, because that is what will happen. Dosage, form (capsule, powder, liquid), pack size, dietary suitability (vegan, gluten-free) and warnings belong in the description text; the agent cannot read a label image.

Questions it should not answer from your store

"Is this suitable while pregnant?" is a question for the customer’s assistant and their doctor, not for your product description, unless your description carries the manufacturer’s warning. Put the warnings in; leave the advice out. An assistant that reads "Consult a healthcare professional before use if pregnant" passes that on.

Restricted products

Some lines may be sold only with a consultation, to verified professionals, or not online at all. Two tools:

  • Hidden catalogue visibility. Hidden products are never served to agents, in search or by ID. A professional-only line stays invisible.
  • Your checkout. The customer pays on your checkout, so any step there (a declaration, a questionnaire, a verification) runs as it does for every order. The agent cannot complete a purchase for them.

With Pro, you can also cap individual agents at view-only, or run an allowlist and accept only agents you have ticked. See Merchant policy.

Reorders and sizes

A reorder puts a past order’s items back in the cart with the same variations and quantities, at today’s prices. Pack sizes are variations and should be named as a person would say them: "Pack: 90 capsules", "Size: 3-month supply". Stock is read per variation.

Returns

Your returns page is sent to agents as plain text. Say what you accept for opened and sealed products, and what you do about damaged items. With Pro, an agent can send a return request on a completed order within your return window; it adds a note and emails you and refunds nothing until you act.

What to set up

  1. Descriptions that carry facts, warnings and dietary suitability, and no claims you would not make on the phone.
  2. Pack-size variations named plainly, with SKUs.
  3. Hidden visibility for professional-only or consultation-only lines.
  4. A terms page saying how restricted lines are sold, so assistants can warn customers.
  5. A returns page with your opened-product rule.
  6. With Pro, consider an allowlist if you want to admit only agents you have vetted.

Common questions

Will the agent give medical advice from my store?

It gives the customer whatever your descriptions say and whatever the assistant itself knows. Your part is the descriptions.

Can it bypass my consultation step?

No. The consultation runs on your checkout or on your product page, and the agent cannot complete the purchase. For products that should not even be in an agent’s cart, hide them.

Does it see my certificates of analysis?

Only if they are text in the description. PDFs and images are not part of the API.

Can it reorder a prescription-only item?

Only if the item is visible and purchasable, and then only up to the checkout, where your prescription step runs.
