Free or Pro: which does your store need? Free & Pro

What the free Agent Adapt plugin does on its own, what each Pro feature adds, the questions that tell you whether you need it, and what Pro costs.

Updated October 12, 2026

Most stores should start with the free plugin, and many will never need more. The free plugin is the whole Personal Agent Protocol for a WooCommerce store, with no caps on agents, customers, sessions or orders, and nothing that stops working after a trial. Pro adds four things on top, each for a reason you will recognise if you have it. This guide says what each one is for, so you can tell.

What the free plugin does

Everything a customer’s agent needs to shop with you and manage their own orders:

  • discovery, verified agent identity, and the OAuth server the protocol requires;
  • product search and details, your policy pages, and a full cart with your prices and coupons;
  • the checkout link, with the order attributed to the agent in WooCommerce;
  • customer sign-in on your own pages, by link or by code, with a consent page naming the agent;
  • for a signed-in agent: orders, order details, reordering, cancelling an unpaid order, saved addresses;
  • the agent’s own browser joining its visit on your website, kept out of the dashboard, account and checkout;
  • WooCommerce → Agents, with blocking, and the Site Health checks;
  • the Connected agents tab and the connection email for customers.

Security controls are never in Pro. Blocking, staff-account refusal, key-bound tokens, rate limits and the same-404 rule are in the free plugin, and Pro cannot loosen them.

What Pro adds, and who it is for

Approvals for changes (operations)

With the free plugin, an agent can cancel an order only if it is unpaid. With Pro, an agent can ask to cancel a paid order with a full refund, send you a return request, or change a customer’s saved address. Each is proposed with exact terms the customer approves, performed once, and off by default where it could cost you money (paid cancellation can be switched off and, on stores where dispatch is immediate, should be).

You need this if customers ask their assistants to handle returns and cancellations and you want those to come through a channel you control, with the customer’s explicit approval, rather than by email.

Merchant policy

Switch individual agent actions off, set your return window, cap any agent at view-only or at signed-out shopping, and run an allowlist that admits only agents you have ticked.

You need this if you want to say which agents may use customer accounts, or you sell something where agents should browse but never touch orders.

The MCP server

A second door into the same actions, for assistants that connect to MCP servers directly rather than implementing the protocol. A customer adds your store’s address as a custom connector and signs in on your store.

You need this if your customers use assistants with custom connectors and you want to give them one address to add. See Do you need an MCP server?.

Agent insights and webhooks

A WooCommerce → Agent insights screen: sessions, sign-ins, orders and net revenue through agents against the web, the funnel by agent, abandoned agent carts and where they stopped, top products, refused requests, a daily chart and CSV downloads. Plus Agent: topics on WooCommerce’s own webhooks.

You need this if agents are bringing you orders and you want to know which ones, where they drop off, and what they tried that your settings refused. The free plugin gives you counts per agent on the Agents screen and WooCommerce’s own attribution reports; Pro gives you the funnel.

Four questions

  1. Has an agent placed an order with you yet? If not, start free. Everything you need to be ready is there, and you will see agents arrive on the Agents screen.
  2. Do you want customers’ assistants to handle refunds, returns or address changes? Yes means Pro’s operations. No means free is enough; agents can still cancel unpaid orders and read order status.
  3. Do you need to control which agents get in, beyond blocking? Yes means Pro’s policy and allowlist.
  4. Do your customers ask to connect your store to their assistant? Yes means Pro’s MCP server.

If every answer is "not yet", stay on free. Nothing is lost by upgrading later: Pro adds to the same installation, and customers’ existing approvals carry over.

What Pro costs

Sites Per year
1 $79
5 $149
50 $299

Renewals never go up. Pro is built and tested but not yet on sale; the pricing page offers early access by email, and we will tell you the day it opens.

Common questions

Does the free plugin stop working after a while, or cap anything?

No. There is no trial, no cap on agents, customers, sessions or orders, and no feature that switches itself off. The free plugin follows wordpress.org‘s rules for free plugins, and we built it to stand on its own.

Is anything about security only in Pro?

No. Every control that keeps agents in their lane is in the free plugin. Pro’s policy settings can only narrow what agents may do, never widen it.

Can I turn Pro’s refund feature off?

Yes, under WooCommerce → Agents → What agents may do. Each operation can be switched off separately. On a store where paid orders are dispatched the moment they are paid, switch paid cancellation off.

What happens to agent connections if I stop paying for Pro?

The free plugin carries on. Agents and customer approvals are unchanged; the Pro features (operations, policy, the MCP server, insights) stop being offered, and the discovery document stops advertising them.
