Subscriptions and memberships: what agents can and cannot do with recurring orders today Free & Pro
Agent Adapt has no integration with WooCommerce Subscriptions or membership plugins. What an agent sees, what it cannot change, and what a subscription store should tell customers.
Updated October 13, 2026
The honest page. Agent Adapt has no integration with WooCommerce Subscriptions, with any other subscription plugin, or with membership plugins, as of the plugin shipping on 13 October 2026. Subscription changes through agents are on the roadmap for Pro and are not built. This page says exactly what an agent sees and can do at a subscription store today, so you can tell customers before their assistants find out.
What an agent sees
- Subscription products appear as products: title, description, price as WooCommerce’s Store API reports it, stock, variations. The agent can put one in a cart. What your subscription plugin does with a cart line added through the Store API is untested; assume it may not create a subscription, or may refuse the line.
- Renewal orders appear in the customer’s order list as orders, with their items, totals and status, once the customer has signed in and approved the agent. "Did my renewal go through?" is answerable.
- The subscription itself (its schedule, next payment date, status, payment method) is not part of the agent API.
What an agent cannot do
- Pause, skip, cancel, resume or change the frequency of a subscription.
- Change the products in a subscription.
- Change the payment method or the next payment date.
- See or change membership status or plan.
- Apply subscribe-and-save pricing. Coupon codes the customer has can be applied to an ordinary cart.
An agent asked to do any of these gets a refusal for things that do not exist in the API, and the customer should be sent to My Account → Subscriptions on your site.
What an agent can do
- Reorder a past order’s items as a one-off purchase, at today’s prices, for the customer to pay on your checkout. For a subscriber who wants an extra bag this month, that works.
- Cancel an unpaid order where WooCommerce would let the customer; a failed renewal that is pending payment may qualify, depending on your plugin’s status handling.
- Read orders, including renewals, and saved addresses, with the customer’s approval.
- With Pro, send a return request on a completed order within your return window, or ask to cancel a paid order with a refund, with the customer approving the exact terms. Whether cancelling a paid renewal order affects the subscription is your plugin’s behaviour, not Agent Adapt’s; test before leaving the action on.
What to say to customers
If you run subscriptions, say in your terms page and your help text that assistants can place one-off orders and check order status, and that subscription changes are made in the account area. Agents read your terms page and will relay it. Copy-ready wording is in Help text for your customers.
What to set up
- A line in your terms about what assistants can and cannot do with subscriptions.
- A test: add a subscription product to a cart through an agent, if you can borrow one, and see what your subscription plugin does with it. Hide subscription-only products from agents (hidden visibility) if the result is a mess.
- Pro’s paid-order cancellation off until you have tested it against renewal orders.
Common questions
Will there be a subscriptions integration?
It is on the roadmap for Pro, after the protocol stabilises. Nothing is built, and no date is promised.
Can the agent tell when the next box ships?
Not from the subscription. It can read the most recent renewal order’s status and your terms page.
Can it renew early?
It can place a one-off order for the same items, which is not a renewal.
Does this affect my members’ access?
No. Membership plugins are not touched. An agent connected to a member’s account sees that account’s orders and addresses, nothing about the membership.
