Toys, kids and gifts: age ranges, gift messages, delivery dates and what an agent can arrange Free & Pro

Gift buying by assistant: 'something for a six-year-old under £25, by Friday'. Where age ranges go, how gift messages and delivery dates still happen on your checkout.

Updated October 13, 2026

"Find a present for a six-year-old who likes dinosaurs, under £25, and get it here by Friday" is a request people already make of assistants, and a toy or gift store on WooCommerce running Agent Adapt can answer most of it: the finding, the price, the stock. The gift message, the wrapping and the delivery date are still done by the customer on your checkout, because the agent cannot pay and does not reach the checkout. This page gives the facts from the plugin as it ships on 13 October 2026.

What customers will ask their assistant

  • "A dinosaur toy for a six-year-old, under £25, in stock."
  • "What did I buy my niece last Christmas?"
  • "Can I return it if she already has it?"
  • "Will it arrive before the 24th?"

Age ranges and themes

The agent searches by keyword against titles and SKUs, filters by category, price, stock and sale, and reads attributes, descriptions and categories for each product it looks at. Age ranges work best as an attribute ("Age: 5–7") or a category, and themes as categories or words in the title. "Dinosaur Dig Kit, ages 6+" is findable; "Kit 4" is not. Safety warnings, small-parts notices and battery requirements belong in the description text, where the agent reads them and will relay them.

Gift messages, wrapping and hiding the price

Gift message and wrapping options offered at checkout still work: the customer opens the agent’s link, lands on your checkout, and fills them in as any visitor would. Gift options offered by a product-page add-on field are not part of the agent API and will be missing from a line the agent adds; the agent can send the customer to the product page instead. Whether the packing slip shows prices is your setting and is unchanged.

Delivery by a date

The agent does not receive your shipping page and cannot choose a shipping method; the customer does that on your checkout. It does receive your terms page, so put last-order dates for Christmas and other seasons there in plain words: "Order by 20 December for delivery before Christmas (mainland UK, standard delivery)". The customer’s assistant can then answer "will it arrive in time?" before the customer opens the checkout.

Past purchases

With the customer signed in and the agent approved, it reads their order history: items, quantities, dates, status. "What did I buy last Christmas?" is answerable, and "the same again for her brother" is a reorder, at today’s prices, for the customer to pay on your checkout.

Seasonal stock and pre-orders

Stock is read per product and per variation; an out-of-stock item is reported and not added. Low-stock counts are shown only if your store shows them to shoppers. Pre-order plugins are untested through the agent API; say the expected date in the description regardless.

Returns

Your returns page is sent as plain text. For gifts, say the window (and whether it is extended over Christmas), whether the recipient can return without the receipt, and what is excluded (opened games, personalised items). With Pro, an agent can send a return request on a completed order within your return window; it adds a note and emails you and refunds nothing until you act. The return window is yours to set; an extended December window can be set there.

What to set up

  1. Age ranges as attributes or categories; themes in titles and categories.
  2. Safety notices and battery requirements in descriptions.
  3. Last-order dates on the terms page, every season.
  4. Gift options at checkout rather than only on the product page, if you want agent orders to have them.
  5. A returns page with the gift rules.
  6. With Pro: an extended return window in December, if you offer one.

Common questions

Can the agent add a gift message?

Not through the API. The customer adds it on your checkout after opening the agent’s link, if your checkout offers it.

Can it send the gift to the recipient’s address?

The customer enters the delivery address on your checkout. With Pro and the customer’s approval, an agent can change a saved address on the account; it cannot change the address on an order.

Will it respect age warnings?

It relays what your description says. Whether to buy is the customer’s decision.

Can it tell me the Christmas cut-off?

Only if it is on your terms page, which the agent reads.
