Home, furniture and garden: dimensions, delivery, bulky returns and the questions agents ask first Free & Pro
Will it fit, when will it arrive, and can I send it back. Where dimensions and delivery terms must live for an agent to answer, and what the returns page needs for bulky goods.
Updated October 13, 2026
Furniture is bought slowly and asked about a lot. A customer’s assistant will be sent to check whether a sofa fits through a door, what delivery costs to a postcode, and whether a mattress can be returned once unwrapped, before anything goes in a cart. A store running Agent Adapt on WooCommerce can answer all three if the words are in the right places. Facts are from the plugin as it ships on 13 October 2026.
What customers will ask their assistant
- "Find an oak dining table, 180 cm or longer, under £900."
- "What are the exact dimensions of the sofa in my order?"
- "Do they deliver to Scotland, and how much?"
- "Can I return the mattress if I don’t like it?"
Dimensions and materials
The agent reads the title, the short description (500 characters), the full description (5,000 characters), attributes and variations. Weight and dimension fields from WooCommerce’s shipping tab are not part of the product data it receives, so put dimensions in text: an attribute "Width: 180 cm" or a line in the short description. Materials, finishes, assembly requirements, box sizes for delivery and what is included belong in the description. A customer’s assistant checking a doorway needs the packed size as well as the assembled size.
Variations for finish and size should be named as a person would say them: "Finish: Natural Oak", "Size: 180 cm". Stock is read per variation and lead times, if you set them, should be in the description text, because the API has no lead-time field.
Delivery terms
The agent does not receive your shipping page, and shipping options and costs are chosen on your checkout. It does receive your terms page and your returns page as plain text. So the delivery facts an assistant will be asked about, delivery areas, two-person delivery, surcharges for remote postcodes, room-of-choice, assembly, lead times, go on the terms page or in product descriptions. A sentence like "Large furniture is delivered by two-person courier to mainland UK; Highlands and Islands by quotation" is quotable. "See delivery page" is not, because the agent cannot see it.
Bulky returns
Say on the returns page who collects, who pays, the condition required (unused, original packaging), and the exceptions (mattresses once unwrapped, made-to-order pieces, assembled flat-pack). With Pro, an agent can send a return request for a completed order within your return window; it adds a note and emails you, refunds nothing, and you arrange collection as you would now. Made-to-order pieces that start production on payment are a reason to switch off Pro’s paid-order cancellation with refund, or to say in your terms when cancellation stops being possible.
Made to order and samples
Fabric swatches and samples work as ordinary products. Made-to-order configurators that need a form on the product page are not part of the agent API; an agent can send the customer to the product page, whose URL it has, and say why. See Print on demand for the same problem in another industry.
What to set up
- Dimensions, packed sizes, weights and materials in text, as attributes or in descriptions.
- Lead times in descriptions for anything not shipped from stock.
- Delivery terms on the terms page: areas, surcharges, service level.
- A returns page for bulky goods: who collects, who pays, exceptions.
- Finish and size variations named plainly, with SKUs.
- With Pro: paid-order cancellation off for made-to-order lines if production starts on payment.
Common questions
Can the agent calculate delivery to my postcode?
No. Shipping is calculated on your checkout. The agent can quote what your terms page says about areas and surcharges.
Does it see my room-planner or AR tool?
No. Only the product’s text and the first image’s URL.
Can it book a delivery slot?
No. Slot pickers are checkout features, used by the customer after opening the agent’s link.
Will it quote a lead time?
Only from text in the description. There is no lead-time field in the API.
