Sports, outdoor and hobby equipment: specifications, sizing, fit and what the agent compares Free & Pro

Outdoor customers shop by specification: weight, waterproof rating, shoe size, frame size. Where those numbers go so an agent can compare, and returns on used kit.

Updated October 13, 2026

The jacket example that runs through this documentation, "a waterproof jacket in my size under £150", is an outdoor-shop request. Sports and outdoor customers shop by numbers: pack volume, tent weight, waterproof rating, shoe size, frame size, line weight. A personal agent is a good shopper for them if those numbers are in the catalogue as text. This page is for sports, outdoor and hobby stores on WooCommerce running Agent Adapt, with facts from the plugin as it ships on 13 October 2026.

What customers will ask their assistant

  • "A two-person tent under 2 kg, in stock, under £300."
  • "Running shoes, UK 9, the same model as my last pair."
  • "Does the jacket I bought have a hood? I want to return it if not."
  • "Is the medium frame in stock?"

Specifications as attributes

The agent reads attributes with their values, and filters search by category, price range, stock and sale status. It cannot filter by weight or waterproof rating, because those are not search parameters, but it reads them from each product it looks at and compares in its own reasoning. Put them where it looks: attributes ("Weight: 1.8 kg", "Waterproof rating: 20,000 mm", "Volume: 35 L") or the short description. A specification table in the full description is read as text, up to 5,000 characters. A specification image, or a table a plugin injects from elsewhere, is not.

Sizes are variations and are matched by attribute value: "Size: UK 9", "Frame: M (54 cm)". Stock is read per variation. Low-stock counts are shown only if your store shows them to shoppers.

Reordering consumables and repeats

Chalk, nutrition, inner tubes, the same shoe in the same size: with the customer signed in and the agent approved, a past order’s items go back in the cart with one call, at today’s prices. SKUs matter here; customers reorder from receipts and the agent matches SKUs.

Fit and sizing

Size charts as images are invisible. Put the measurements in text: foot length per size, chest and sleeve per size, rider height per frame. "Fits true to size; if between sizes, size up" is a sentence an assistant will quote.

Returns on used kit

Your returns page is sent as plain text. Say whether kit can be returned after use (shoes worn outdoors, a tent that has been pitched), what counts as unused, and what you do about faults within the warranty. With Pro, an agent can send a return request on a completed order within your return window; it adds a note and emails you and refunds nothing until you act. Warranty claims after the window are a conversation; say how to start one.

Bikes, boats, big items

Lead times, build options and delivery terms for large items belong in descriptions and on the terms page; the shipping page is not sent to agents. Configurators that need a form on the product page are not part of the agent API; the agent can send the customer to the product page, whose URL it has. See Home, furniture and garden for bulky delivery.

What to set up

  1. The numbers people shop by as attributes or in short descriptions.
  2. Size and frame variations named plainly, with SKUs.
  3. Measurements per size in text.
  4. A returns page covering used kit and faults.
  5. Cross-sells for accessories (the inner tube that fits the tyre); the agent sees them.

Common questions

Can the agent filter by weight?

Not as a search filter. It reads the weight of each product it looks at and compares. Keep weights in a consistent unit.

Does it see the brand’s size chart?

Only if the chart is text in your description.

Will it add a worn-outdoors exclusion to the order?

No. It quotes your returns page. Put the rule there and in the product description.

Can it compare two products?

It reads both products’ details and compares in its own reasoning. Your job is to give it the same fields for both.
